Declaration Signatures
When you sign the Declaration for Life, we collect:
- Name — to personalize your signature and display on the Global Voice Map
- Email address — to send you a confirmation and occasional updates from The River
- Country and city — to show the global reach of the Declaration on our map
Your signature is the whole point — it's kept indefinitely so the Declaration's count remains accurate.
River Subscriptions
When you subscribe to The River, we collect:
- Email address — to send you River posts (typically several per month, roughly weekly)
You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email or by contacting us.
Contact Form Submissions
When you contact us through our form, we collect:
- Name, email, subject, and message — to respond to your inquiry
Contact form data is retained for 30 days, then deleted unless ongoing correspondence requires it.
Automatically Collected Information
When you visit our site, we may automatically collect:
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Referring website
- Pages visited and time spent
- IP address (used only for security and spam prevention)
How We Use Your Information
- To count and display Declaration signatures and geographic data
- To send River posts and declaration confirmation emails

Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate our site:
- Supabase — database storage for signatures, subscribers, and River posts
- MailerLite — email subscriber management and sending
- Formspree — contact form processing
- Resend — transactional email delivery (declaration confirmations)
- Cloudflare Turnstile — bot and spam prevention on forms
- Netlify — website hosting and deployment
Each service has its own privacy policy. We only share data with these providers to the extent necessary to operate our services.
Data Retention
- Declaration signatures — kept indefinitely (they are the Declaration's purpose)
- River subscriber data — kept until you unsubscribe, then deleted
- Contact form data — deleted after 30 days unless needed for ongoing correspondence
- Automatically collected data — retained for up to 90 days for security purposes
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (except Declaration signatures, which form part of the public record)
- Unsubscribe from River emails at any time
- Object to processing of your data
